The undisputed super bantamweight champion, Naoya “Monster” Inoue, will defend his championship against Luis “Pantera” Nery, former world bantamweight and super bantamweight champion, on Monday, May 6 at the Tokyo Dome in Japan.
The fight is organized by Top Rank, Teiken Promotions and Ohashi Promotions, and will be televised by ESPN for the United States and Latin America and it will arrive through AMAZON for Japan.
Although both have been respectful, there is an inherent rivalry. Today we remember the day that “Pantera” Nery was crowned world bantamweight champion in Japan:
Mexican Luis Nery defeated Japanese Shinsuke Yamanaka by technical knockout when he was only 22 years old in 2017, snatching the World Boxing Council bantamweight title from him.
Despite the predictions against him, Nery started the fight very strongly, landing Yamanaka with power blows. It all came to an end in the fourth round.
This was the first fight outside of Mexico for Nery, who improved his record to 24-0. with 18 KO’s. The legendary Yamanaka suffered his first defeat in 30 fights.
