Serhii Bohachuk (24-1, 23 KO’s.) has become one of the most respected and elite boxers in Ukraine and the world.
In no small part thanks to the great performance he achieved in defeating Brian Mendoza on Saturday, March 30 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, winning the World Boxing Council interim super welterweight title.
An important part of Serhii Bohachuk’s story is his loyalty to the WBC, winning the 2019 Americas Continental title for the first time.
Serhii was in Ukraine waiting to renew his US visa when the Russian invasion began; The US embassy closed.
After 4 months he obtained official permission from the Minister of Sports of Ukraine, so that he could return to the United States to continue his boxing career and represent his country with pride and dignity.
After returning to the United States, he fought for the same WBC Americas Continental title again in 2022, making 2 defenses before getting the chance to challenge for the interim world title.
This was a long and arduous journey for Serhii and the longest time he has been out of the ring. Thanks to his perseverance, he began training again in Los Angeles with Manny Robles and with 3 knockout wins, he worked his way up to the #2 spot in the WBC rankings, allowing him to fight for the world title.
His brother is currently fighting in the Ukrainian army and his mother still lives there, so that is constantly on his mind and they are in his prayers. His family and his country, are his biggest inspiration.
Last week Serhii visited Mexico with promoter Tom Loeffler to receive the belt that endorses him as WBC Hreen and Gold Champion, fromPresident, Mauricio Sulaimán.
Multiple media outlets, written and television, requested interviews to learn about the story of this great champion, who is grateful for the large number of fans who had the opportunity to learn about his life story.
“I want to thank all of Mexico for their hospitality and the WBC for their support of my career. I also appreciate the support you have given to Ukraine due to the difficult situation we have been through. Now I am world champion and I know that I am a motivation and an example for my country.”
A very special moment for Serhii was the champion’s visit to the Embassy of Ukraine, where the diplomat Oksana Dramaretska received him and introduced three soldiers of the war, heroes whom Bohachuk thanked for their bravery in defending their country.
“My brother is fighting just like you, I only have gratitude and recognition for you, the true heroes, my heart goes out to you,” Serhii stressed.
At the end of the talk they posed for a photograph, remembering that Ukraine and Mexico are brother countries “I also want to thank this beautiful country Mexico for the support and brotherhood, we Ukrainians and Mexicans are very similar, we are equally hospitable, thank you always for receiving me like this.”
