On November 24, Hurricane Otis made landfall in the state of Acapulco, Guerrero, as a powerful category five hurricane, becoming one of the strongest hurricanes ever recorded in the Mexican Pacific.
With winds of more than 260 km/h and gusts of up to 315 km/h, Otis left in its wake a scene of devastation and destruction, the fall of communication systems and a panorama where many of its inhabitants lost everything.
The World Boxing Council joined from the first wave in support of Acapulco, which hosted the 60th convention, at the Palacio Mundo Imperial Hotel.
The WBC carried out a series of activations and events together with the Mexican and world boxing community, such as the creation of the “Acapulco Relief Fund” to ensure that donations reach specific and necessary places, including: Casa Marsh, a place full of love that provides needy and homeless boys and girls with a roof, food, education, medical service and more.
Directed by Jobita, WBC Cares visited alongside world champions such as Vinny Paz, Shawn Porter, Humberto González, Edgar Sosa, Zulina Muñoz, among many more.
Our Silver champion David Picasso and his team personally brought supplies to the port of Acapulco. On his last visit he was dressed as Spiderman to distribute candy, food and all kinds of materials to the children.
The WBC and its President Mauricio Sulaimán congratulate the Secretary of Tourism, Miguel Torruco Marqués, the governor of Guerrero Evelyn Salgado Pineda and the municipal president of Acapulco, Abelina López Rodríguez, for the tireless work they have done to carry out the Tianguis Tourist Mexico 2024.
We will soon announce a great boxing event that will take place in Acapulco, demonstrating that this great city in the state of Guerrero rises from the canvas to triumph, like the great and historic WBC champions.
