World Boxing Council featherweight champion Mexican Rey Vargas, defended his crown with Englishman Nick Ball via draw, in one of the main fights of the “Knockout Chaos” card, at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Vargas started well in the first six rounds, Ball pressed the fight in the second half with power punches and pressure boxing. With this draw, Vargas left his record at 36-1-1, with 22 knockouts.
He was at our Coffee Tuesday held in the south of CDMX at the beautiful Hacienda de Cortes restaurant and this is what the champion commented:
It was a complicated fight. It was a very tough fight due to his desperation of getting the belt.
Thank God we came out with the result. We did a good job in the ring and managed to defend the WBC crown.
I will be in this sport as long as my body allows it. I am very motivated to defend my belt, whether against Brandon Figueroa or whoever; we are ready.
Every fight is a learned lesson. What we will look for is to add some things and continue improving.
The featherweight division is very Mexican and is full of talent. Of course I would also like to unify against my compatriots.
