“The King” Lets Fly!

Mexican Julio César ‘Rey’ Martínez defeated Venezuelan Angelino ‘Huracán’ Córdova by majority decision this Saturday in a thrilling battle, to successfully defend his World Boxing Council flyweight belt.

The fight took place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas and it was part of the inaugural PBC´s + Amazon Prime outstanding card loaded with several exciting title fights.

The Venezuelan challenger started the fight aggressively, attacking the body and face of the champion in the middle of the ring.

‘Rey’ retaliated with fire and brimstone in the third round with a powerful straight left jab that sent Cordova to canvas and added vim, to repeat the dose to fell him again.

Trying to shorten the distance Angelino fought in the middle of the ring, trading punches with Rey;  but he was punished with a hook and an overhand right that shook his legs and forced him to resort to clinches, in order to stay upright.

The intensity did not decrease during the entire fight, with the dominance switching to and fro.

Córdova did not back down and faced up to Rey, who accordingly and repeatedly punished his visage with left hooks.

The grandstand rounds were impressive yet costly, with  Angelino sporting a swollen jaw and nose, and JC bleeding from both eyebrows due to head clashes.

Two of the Judges’ cards favored ‘Rey’ 114-112, while the third one scored it 113-113.  With this result, Rey Martinez lustily managed to defend his WBC Flyweight Crown.

“The headbutts affected my vision, but I’m very happy. My respect to Angelino Córdova. Now I want the undisputed championship  and I am not going to rest until I get it,” said Rey, at the end of a long day.
