The WBC is proud to support one of our great Hall of Fame champions – Carlos Palomino – as his amazing life story is being made into a Hollywood movie! The exciting news is that you can own part of the Palomino film and get your names in the credits! For details, go to www.InvestPalominoMovie.com.
Carlos was born into poverty in Mexico and, against all odds, became a success in America. Along the way, he graduated from college and joined the U.S. Army. He had an incredibly successful career as WBC world welterweight champion and a Hall of Fame boxer, and a great career in film and television after he retired from the ring.
As a proud Mexican-American, it is important to Carlos that this film provides an opportunity to anyone to invest for a relatively small amount of money, and to be able to provide jobs to actors and crew members in the Hispanic, Latino and Mexican-American communities. Roles for actors and job opportunities for crew members from those communities are very underrepresented in Hollywood. Hispanic culture is rarely portrayed realistically or authentically in Hollywood films that typically stereotype our communities and only have minor supporting roles and few jobs for crew members.
Variety reported that while Latinos are more than 19% of the U.S. population, they make up only 5.2% of lead movie roles and only 5.1% of co-leads in ensemble productions. Just as important, the U.S. Latino market accounts for 23% of all moviegoers and purchased 29% ($2.9 billion) of all movie tickets in Variety’s report. It is clear that the need for quality Hollywood films for this market exists. And what better way to help our communities than by making an inspirational film about a great WBC boxing champion that the whole family can enjoy.
That’s one of the many reasons we are excited to support the making of Palomino!
