Inspirational pioneer of women’s boxing and life, Ana María Torres is one of the boxers who blazed a trail for women’s boxing, so much so that last year she was elected as a new member of the International Boxing Hall of Fame this 2024, in Canastota.
Born in January 1980 in Ciudad Nezahualcóyotl, Ana stood out for her style, strength, determination, passion and brilliance.
From a very early age, Ana became interested in contact sports and although at the beginning she trained in taekwondo, her life took her on another and different path; The boxing ring became her epicenter at the D’ Vick gym, in Neza city, where she excelled.
The fight to get a place in boxing was not easy, but in her first professional fight on July 3, 1999 against Mariana Juárez, Ana María not only dealt with her rival’s blows but also with some booing and sexist attitudes of the attendants; However, that did not stop her, on the contrary, it motivated her to demonstrate that women have the same ability to do anything that men do.
After almost 11 years, Ana María Torres has been involved in rematches and trilogies; facing Mariana the “Barbie” Juárez on 3 times, two confrontations with Berenice Chávez, two with Myung Ok Ryu; and in 2011, two great battles with Jackie Nava, which revealed her as one of the greatest fighters in the world and in all of history. In the first match they tied, the second she won it, putting the greatest recognition on her belt that any boxer can have, but only those who achieve glory obtain the WBC Diamond Belt.
A woman of fight, of dedication, full of passion for boxing and faithful to her ideals. At the WBC we are so very proud to be part of the history of this great world champion, who has defended her Green and Gold Belt in the super flyweight division with honor and heart eleven times and who is in the realm of all time excellence
