Rey Vargas arrived in Mexico City after earning a draw against the British Nick Ball last weekend in Saudi Arabia.
The featherweight champion of the World Boxing Council along with his family, was warmly greeted by appreciative fans.
“This reception is joy and motivation, working in the gym to give good results. A couple of hours ago I was reflecting and we have been world champions for 7 years, proudly Green and Gold.”
We have a good taste about representing Mexico and going to distant lands; It is not to minimize the rival but I think that we deserve other types of rivals and we deserve better payment, I went because of what the type of scenario means, to represent Mexico, which not just any fighter can be there.”
“The lesson of this fight is that you are in your rival’s house and you can do things well, even if you go against everything; What I can learn is to demand better pay, we are going against everything, I risk a lot.”
During his exit from the dressing room to the ring, Rey walked accompanied by the former world champion, the Filipino Manny Pacquiao, a great motivation for Rey, he noted “we bumped into each other at the exit, he wished me good luck, I told him that if he would accompany me and He said no problem, so we both went out, it was a lot of motivation to go out and walk with an idol and boxing icon.”
For the remainder of the year, Rey Vargas has two more fights planned to continue defending his title.
