Vanessa Lepage-Joanisse New WBC Heavyweight Champion

Canadian Vanessa Lepage-Joanisse and the Argentine Abril Vidal memorably contested the vacant heavyweight belt of the World Boxing Council, and it turned out to be one of the best heavyweight fights for many a day.

After 10 rounds of fighting, the Canadian won  the victory via split decision. The fight was highly competitive and close throughout , with both fighters following their strategy perfectly, but with Vanessa managing to better implement  her plan.

Vanessa ratcheted up and kept  the pressure on for most of the rounds, using an effective jab and forcing her opponent to box prudently . Abril Vidal focused on throwing power punches, especially in the last seconds of the rounds.

After 10 rounds of fierce exchanges, two judges saw Vanessa Lepage-Joanisse as the winner with  97-93 scorecards,  while one judge saw Abril Vidal win with a score of 96-94.

So, Lepage-Joanisse managed to win the heavyweight crown of the World Boxing Council in her second title opportunity, improving her record to 7 wins with 1 defeat.

The fight was at the Montreal Casino and was presented live on ESPN+ in the United States and ESPNKO in Latin America.
