WBC, IBF and WBO Light Heavyweight Champion Artur Beterbiev retained his crowns, by knocking out former former super middleweight world champion Callum “Mundo” Smith in the seventh round, at the Center Videotron in Quebec, Canada.
Beterbiev was ruthless and relentless from the outset, throwing clusters of fast, accurate and heavy punches.
Smith won round two but by round four he was under the cosh, with his face showing that he was bearing the brillo brunt, lumps and bumps of an unrelenting onslaught.
In the seventh round, he was twice decked, with laser combinations.
After the second visit to the canvass, Smith courageously struggled to his feet, but his coach and himself a former world champion Buddy McGirt wisely got into the ring to urge the stoppage, fully aware that his boxer was still dizzy and unsteady on his feet.
Beterbiev had not fought for a year, since he knocked out another Englishman… Anthony Yarde in eight rounds. No ring rust whatsoever.
