This so deserved medal of recognition was presented by the Alfredo Harp Helú Foundation and the Government of Mexico City, earned for Mauricio`s notable unwavering and inspirational contribution to sports and physical culture in Mexico City.
The Director of the Alfredo Harp Helú Sports Foundation, Doctor Daniel Aceves Villagrán, presented the medal to World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaiman, at the “Martes a Cafe” press conference at the Institute of Higher Education of the Police Academy.
“It would be impossible to think that the Foundation would carry out the tasks it performs in a unitary manner and a central element not only of a personal and professional nature and of collaboration is the World Boxing Council,” he highlighted.
The Olympic medalist from Los Angeles recalled that when the Foundation won the International Peace and Sport Award, for Best Initiative of the year awarded by the international organization Peace and Sport, based in Monaco, it was largely because of the great contribution made by the WBC and fighters, especially Julio César Chávez.
“Boxers were part of this video, of course Mauricio and Julio César Chávez and a series of people who in these years have stood out for having an important contribution,” Aceves explained.
He added that on December 11, when the FAHH Deporte won the State Sports Award of Mexico City in the Sports Promotion category, the head of government Martí Batres told him that they should give a recognition to the WBC for everything the organization has contributed to the city via the massive boxing classes held in the country’s capital.
The head of government told me: ‘Look, I ask you to give this medal to Mauricio, with the promise that I will also do it personally,’ Aceves explained. The medal is a symbol of the feathered serpent, which is the symbol of sports and physical culture of the capital city of Mexico.
