The World Boxing council travelled to Queretaro to honor, applaud and celebrate twenty seven incredibly brave women who have overcome and survived breast cancer.
Each was presented with a special certificate by WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman. They have won the fight for their lives. He described them as Champions.
This week’s Martes a Cafe was at the Chimney Salon at the city’s old railway station. The magnificent building dates back to 1904.
Margarita Carrasco the President of Women United Against Breast Cancer thanked the WBC for a Green and Gold Belt, on behalf of her colleagues/friends. She helped establish MUCCAM five years ago and since then, the Association has helped dozens of Breast Cancer Warriors.
She thanked former WBC Silver Champion Andres “Jaguar” Gutierrez for his marvelous help, support and solidarity. She took the oppotunity to recognize all the people who have supoorted her on this very important mission.
The outstanding highlight of the event was a reading entitled “Mum goes to war.A triumph” by Veronica Marica, mother of two and actress of this beautifully written and illustrated children’s’ book.
Veronica battled breast cancer for five years and overcame what she described as: “This terrible illness.”
Christiane Manzur Chair of WBC Cares in Mexico, praised the extraordinary courage, resolve and resilience of the women survivors. Survivors of life!
She stressed the vital importance of regular self examination, in order to detect any abnormality at the earliest possible stage. Christiane Manzur recognized all the warriors in the room, including boxers who are always willing to help and support.
As the name of each woman who has survived breast cancer was announced, their friends cheered them on the way to the stage.
Each of these moments were emotional, emotive, heartfelt and so memorable. Sometimes outside a train rumbled by, hooting its siren. A marvelous and clarion symbol of unstoppable hope and progress. All on the right lines. Just the ticket!
