The great Filipino flyweight Champion, Panchito Villa, passed away. His real name was Francisco Guilledo. He was just 23 years old, tragically dying from an injury to his mouth which caused blood poisoning, according to doctors, who unsuccessfully fought to save him. Ten days earlier he’d lost to hard hitting “Baby Face” Jimmy McLarnin in Emeryville, California. Villa is revered as one of the very greatest fighters of a country which has produced an enviable array of boxing superstars.
